Cathy Rae Skowronski of DeForest died Friday, May 8, 2026, at the age of 62. A funeral service for Skowronski is scheduled for Friday, May 22, at Ryan Funeral Home – Windsor/DeForest Chapel in DeForest, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 4:00 p.m.
Skowronski was born Jan. 27, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Louella (Goss) DeMoor, and married Steve Skowronski there on July 15, 1989. She worked for many years at WPS as a claims adjustor and was known for the Butterfinger Cake she made. She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, fishing, watching her children’s sporting events and game shows.
She is survived by her husband, Steve; her sons Matthew, Joseph, Eric and Samuel Skowronski; her brother, Joseph (Sandra) DeMoor; and her sister, LuAnn Brooks. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Dale Brooks.
The obituary, from Ryan Funeral Homes, leaves the central picture plainly drawn: Skowronski’s life was rooted in family, routine and the small, memorable details people keep after a death. The service later this month gives relatives and friends a time to gather, and the record of what she loved — from the outdoors to her children’s games to a signature cake — is the answer to how she will be remembered.
