Boxing News: Jake Paul says broken jaw could keep him from fighting again

says he is getting new scans of his jaw in a couple of days, five months after it was broken in a fight against , and he still does not know whether he can box again. The 28-year-old said he needs medical clearance before he can spar, and acknowledged that there is a chance he may never fight again.

Paul said the latest checkup will help doctors judge how the injury is healing. “I’m getting some new scans here in a couple of days of the jaw to get an update on the healing process,” he said. “We’ll see what my doctors say. I think I’ll be able to get more accurate timeframe or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibilities of things.”

The setback comes after a bout that replaced a previously scheduled matchup with , which was scrapped before Paul faced Joshua. That leaves his return to boxing hanging on what the scans show and whether doctors decide the jaw is healed enough for contact work. Paul said he is also missing a tooth and believes he will probably need an implanted replacement.

He said his doctor, , does not want him back in the ring. “Most definitely [a chance I can’t fight again],” Paul said when asked about that possibility. “Definitely my doctor Arman, he doesn’t want me to fight again.”

Even with that warning, Paul said he is still training and refuses to close the door on another run in the sport. “Those thoughts have definitely come up but I’m not done,” he said. “I can just feel it in my spirit, in my soul and my heart that I have more fights left and unfinished business in my mind. Injuries are part of any sport.”

For now, the next step is simple: new scans, a doctor’s review and a decision that could determine whether Paul can spar again at all. He is staying in shape and doing mitt work while he waits, but the outcome of the healing process will decide whether boxing news about his return ever becomes a fight announcement.
