Season 8 of Marvel Rivals is almost here, and the next two months or so are expected to bring two new additions to the roster. Everything now points to Cyclops and Devil Dinosaur, with the dinosaur appearing likely to come first after an early teaser.
That matters because Devil Dinosaur is not a deep-cut name for nothing. He was first introduced as a giant red Tyrannosaurus Rex living in Dinosaur World, a parallel version of Earth where dinosaurs and primitive humanoid tribes coexisted. After nearly being burned to death by a tribe of Killer-Folk, he was rescued by Moon-Boy, and the fire left him with a fiery red appearance and dormant mutations that changed what he could do.
From there, Devil Dinosaur and Moon-Boy became a fixed pair, wandering through sporadic adventures across the Marvel universe. The dinosaur later teamed up with Godzilla, then relocated to the Savage Land in Earth-616, where his story eventually shifted again after Moon-Boy died and Moon-Girl took over as his new companion. In the comics, Devil Dinosaur is usually shown as unusually intelligent for a creature that typically cannot speak, while also carrying strength above a normal T-Rex, heat resistance, and a near-bulletproof body.
Those details make him an odd but plausible fit for a game like Marvel Rivals, especially because his size has never been stable on the page. He is prone to fluctuating in scale, though it is not clear whether that is a built-in ability or a side effect of his mutation, and how any of that will be represented in the game remains unknown. The early tease suggests he may even be built around mind-switching mechanics, possibly tied to an Ultimate, but that has not been confirmed.
The contrast in this rollout is hard to miss. Cyclops is the obvious marquee name, while Devil Dinosaur is the kind of character that rewards players who know Marvel’s stranger corners. He is also the one who appears bound to be officially revealed over the coming days, which makes him the first real answer to what Season 8 is about to add.
