Katie Price was set to appear on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, May 12, but her husband Lee Andrews was expected to stay off-screen as the couple’s latest television appearance drew fresh attention to their fast-moving marriage.
The ITV morning show teased the interview on Monday with a clip on its Instagram account, with Ed Balls saying, "Tomorrow exclusively on Good Morning Britain..." Susanna Reid added: "Katie Price joins us alongside new husband Lee Andrews for their first live interview." But the appearance was set to land with Andrews absent, despite the pair tying the knot in Dubai in January, just days after meeting one another.
That matters because Price has spent much of the months since the wedding explaining a relationship that has played out partly in public and partly at a distance. She has been flying to and from Dubai to see Andrews since the wedding, while also fielding questions over whether he can leave the United Arab Emirates and whether he has really been welcomed into her family life.
Price has already addressed some of those questions in blunt terms. When asked about the travel restrictions often discussed online, she said: "Do you know what? Everyone has said to me you can get a travel ban over anything in Dubai." She went on: "A parking ticket or if you owe a bill for electricity or something… you can get a travel ban for absolutely anything."
She also made clear why Andrews had not yet met her children in person. "No, like it never is enough. And for me to introduce him to the kids, I won’t be introducing him to the kids yet, because I want to get to know him more myself. And I think the thing that everyone can’t get their head round is why have I married him quick," she said. "I was there. We got engaged. And it just felt right, so why not get married?"
The public fascination around Andrews has not been limited to their wedding or Price’s TV interviews. Last month, he claimed he had secretly met her children in the UK, a claim that was denied by Price’s representatives. He has also previously denied reports that he is banned from leaving the United Arab Emirates, and Price has on several occasions defended him against accusations that he is a scammer or con-man.
Price was grilled on Good Morning Britain in March over Andrews and the speed of their romance, and the latest booking suggested the scrutiny was not easing. But the answer to the question that has followed the pair since January is now clear: she was due to talk, he was not, and the marriage would again be explained on television without the husband at the center of it.
