The Punisher: One Last Kill arrives on Disney+ this month, putting Frank Castle back in play one week after the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. The one-off Marvel Studios Special Presentation will stream in the U.S. on Tuesday, May 12, at 6 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. ET, with the UK release following on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 2 a.m. BST.
The timing matters because Marvel is not stretching this into a new series. There are no further episodes after launch day, which gives the special the feel of a reset rather than a slow build. Castle was last seen breaking out of Mayor Wilson Fisk’s prison for vigilantes, and this special picks up immediately after that escape, returning the character to New York City after a gap of just one week.
For viewers who followed the Netflix-era Punisher run, the new outing marks a short return compared with the earlier story that ran across two seasons and 26 episodes. That history is part of why the announcement has drawn attention: Castle is back, but not in the form of a sprawling season. Marvel Studios is treating the project the same way it handled Werewolf By Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special — a self-contained event with a beginning and an end.
Sana Amanat, who produced the special as well as Born Again season 2, said the project will explore a little bit of where Frank Castle has been. She added that Castle is “not necessarily a team-up kind of guy,” and said, “He has his own journey, and he will stay true to that journey, and ultimately that's what this is supposed to be. So we will explore a little bit of where Frank has been, but I can't say anything more than that.”
That framing leaves the special in an interesting place. It is both a continuation and a detour, designed to explain where Castle has been while keeping him separate from the larger team-up machine. Jon Bernthal is also set to reprise the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which means this one-off will not be Castle’s last turn in the Marvel lineup. For now, though, the answer to what The Punisher: One Last Kill is meant to be is simple: a single, limited return for Frank Castle, arriving fast, ending fast and built to stand on its own.
