Riley Green is heading to The Voice as a brand-new coach for Season 30, joining Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine on a four-coach panel that will expand when the show returns this fall. The country singer shared Clarkson’s voicemail on Instagram after the announcement, turning the casting news into a very public welcome.
Clarkson told Green she was “stoked” to hear he had landed the job and said she was super excited to coach alongside him. In the voicemail, she called his music “so good,” said she was a big fan, and reminded him that she had covered his songs before adding that team Kelly was going to “whoop that ass.”
Green answered in the caption by writing that maybe now they could start referring to him as coach, and said he was excited to see everyone this fall. It is his first time serving as a judge on a reality show, a notable step for an artist whose recent run has included the release of his third studio album, Don’t Mind If I Do, which has 18 tracks, and the music video for “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” featuring Carly Pearce.
The new season will feature four coaches, with three already announced and one still undisclosed. That leaves one seat open for the network to fill before the fall premiere, but Green’s arrival already gives the season a fresh angle: a first-time television judge stepping into a format built on veteran voices, with Clarkson making clear she is ready to treat him as both friend and rival.
The appeal of the new voice coach announcement is plain enough. Green brings a new audience to the show, Clarkson brings the banter, and the final coaching chair remains the only piece of the lineup not yet named.
