Davey Todd has been ruled out of this year's Isle of Man TT after race organisers confirmed on Tuesday morning that the 30-year-old will not be given permission to compete in 2026. The defending Superbike TT winner said he was "absolutely gutted" to miss the start line, with less than two weeks to go before practice begins.
Todd's absence ends his season before it has properly begun. He crashed during qualifying for the Daytona 200 in March and suffered a broken femur, a broken tibia, fractures to his foot and nose, then spent much of the past six weeks working with Formula Medicine in Italy after initial surgery in the United States.
Last week, he was also declared unfit for the North West 200 after doctors reviewed the latest scans of his healing bones. On Tuesday morning, the Isle of Man TT organiser said a panel of specialists in emergency medicine, orthopaedics and trauma surgery had concluded the injuries would not recover sufficiently in time for the demands of the mountain course.
Todd said he had done everything possible to get himself into a position to race and thanked the people involved in his treatment in Italy, along with BMW Motorrad, Monster Energy and those around him. He said they had left no stone unturned in the bid to get him back, but had simply run out of time.
The result is a hard blow for 8TEN Racing and for a rider who won last year's Superbike TT race on an 8TEN Racing BMW, beating Michael Dunlop to victory. Todd said the focus now shifts to next year so he can come back stronger than ever, and that he will back his team from the sidelines while the road to recovery continues.
That leaves the key question not about this year's race, but about how quickly Todd can rebuild for 2027 after injuries that have already kept him out of the TT and the North West 200. For now, the season is over before it even started.
