Serena Williams and Venus Williams walked into Kevin Hart’s Netflix roast at The Kia Forum in Los Angeles and turned the night into a family-sized ambush. The Williams sisters presented Hart with a G.R.O.A.T ring, then took turns making sure he understood the gift came with a price.
“Seriously, Kevin, we’ve got nothing but love for you,” Venus Williams said before Serena Williams cut in with her own tennis-flavored warning: “We love you so much, and as you know in tennis, love means nothing.” Hart accepted the ring before being told to leave the podium, a handoff that fit the tone of a show built on insults, timing and the kind of celebrity banter only a roast can survive.
Shane Gillis hosted the Netflix special, which also featured roasts from Tom Brady, Dwayne Johnson, Katt Williams and others. The sisters’ appearance carried extra weight because Serena Williams retired from professional tennis in 2022 and has not competed professionally since, while Venus Williams returned last year and played in multiple WTA Tour events, including the Slams in New York City and Melbourne.
Venus said they brought Hart “the most coveted G.R.O.A.T ring, which we give to the most honorable guest,” before Serena added, “And if you don’t want it, you can pawn it two blocks from here.” Serena then pushed the joke further, telling Hart, “And one more thing, can you sit down?” and then, “This is our moment.” The bit landed because the sisters were not playing to the gallery as outsiders. They were stepping in as winners who know exactly how to control a room.
That also made the night a little more pointed for Venus, who has been handed wild cards to several tournaments but has exited early each time and is on a 10-match losing streak in singles. Serena, a 23-time Singles Grand Slam champion, remains retired despite continuing rumors about a comeback. The roast gave both sisters a different kind of stage — one where the crowd was not there to measure forehands or fitness, only the punchline.
Hart got the ring, the jokes and the spotlight he came for. The sisters, meanwhile, made clear they were not there for nostalgia or a comeback tease. Serena Williams answered that question herself at the podium: this was not tennis, and it was not a hint. It was simply their moment, and they took it.
