Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Disneyland yesterday for the children’s birthdays and a belated Mother’s Day celebration for Meghan. The family trip came with Mickey Mouse ears, a boat ride and moments that showed the couple leaning into a familiar place for a rare public outing with their children.
Archie turned 7 last week, while Lilibet will turn 5 on June 4. In photos from the visit, Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland, wore Mickey Mouse ears, while Lilibet hugged Cinderella and met Aurora. The siblings also rode a boat, adding to a day that looked built around the children rather than the adults accompanying them.
The outing also fits a pattern. Last June, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex brought their children to Disneyland for Lilibet’s 4th birthday, and Meghan later wrote on Instagram: “Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!” That reel showed a Little Mermaid-themed cake for Lilibet, the family on several rides and Harry and Meghan on Space Mountain.
The Disney connection has also become part of the couple’s public storytelling. This past fall, they shared memories from the park in an ABC special marking 70 Years of Disneyland, where Harry said the children were excited before they had even walked through the gates. “They’re like, ‘This is amazing!’ Like, guys, this isn't even the front of it. Prepare yourself. You're about to be blown away,” he said, adding that watching the children dive into the experience “brings out the kid in you again.”
There is a personal layer to the trip as well. Meghan is especially close to her mother, who also lives in California, and she once described Ragland in a 2014 Tig post titled “Love Letter.” That makes the Disney visit more than a birthday stop and more than a photo opportunity. It is a repeat family outing that ties the children’s milestones to a place the Sussexes have already made part of their own family calendar.
The answer to why this trip matters is simple: it was not a one-off appearance. By returning to Disneyland with Archie and Lilibet for birthdays and Mother’s Day, Harry and Meghan showed that the park has become a reliable family ritual, one they are willing to revisit as the children grow older and the moments become more personal.
