Production on the fourth season of NCIS: Sydney has begun, with filming now under way across Sydney Harbour and surrounding areas as the Australian spin-off pushes ahead after its latest pickup. The news lands as the double episode season three finale starts streaming today, giving fans one chapter closing even as the next is already in motion.
The new season will bring back the elite joint taskforce of US NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police, and it will not be playing safe. Gold heists, government secrets and criminal mastermind mermaids are all part of the season’s case list, while professional lines are set to blur and long-simmering romantic tensions may reach a fever pitch.
Olivia Swann and Todd Lasance return as Special Agent Michelle Mackey and Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey, alongside Sean Sagar, Tuuli Narkle, Mavournee Hazel and William McInnes. Endemol Shine Australia is making the series for CBS Studios and Paramount Australia, and the show is distributed outside Australia by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
The production move follows January reporting that NCIS: Sydney was among 10 primetime series picked up by CBS for its 2026/27 schedule, alongside NCIS and NCIS: Origins. That pickup signalled confidence in the franchise’s reach, and the source behind the commission said the show’s reception locally and internationally, together with the work it supports in Australia, helped keep it moving.
Rick Maier said the new season is “great for fans, cast, crew, and our creative community, and we have so many more incredible stories to tell.” Sara Richardson said she was “immensely proud of the extraordinary team whose passion and creativity breathe life into these characters season after season,” adding that “the opportunity to create jobs, champion local crews, and keep telling bold, ambitious Australian stories on this scale is important.” With three seasons already streaming on Paramount+, the franchise is now leaning into the momentum rather than waiting for it.
What happens next is straightforward: season four is being built now, on location and with the original ensemble back in place, while the season three finale gives viewers a fresh entry point into the series at the very moment the next run starts to take shape.
