Arka Gdynia will return to league action on Wednesday at 18:00 when it hosts Górnik Zabrze in a postponed match that carries real weight in its fight to stay in the Ekstraklasa. Dariusz Banasik said the point Arka earned away at Lech Poznań changed the mood around the club and made supporters believe survival was still possible.
That does not mean the pressure has eased. Banasik said Arka still needs victories to keep its relegation battle alive and added that he does not allow himself to think the team will drop out of the top flight. With two consecutive home matches now ahead — Górnik on Wednesday and Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza on Monday — Arka enters a decisive stretch before its final league match in Częstochowa.
Banasik tried to strip the moment down to the next task. He said there is no point in calculating beyond Górnik and that the team cannot start looking ahead to Bruk-Bet Termalica or Raków. For him, the only useful focus is the match in front of Arka, because that is where the season can still be shaped.
Górnik brings a difficult opponent into that equation. Banasik described it as a well-organized side that is dangerous when it moves quickly from defense into attack. He also placed it among the teams near the top of the table and pointed out that it won the Polish Cup, a reminder that Arka is not facing a team willing to give much away.
That is why, in Banasik’s view, the margin for error is so small. He said Arka must be fully concentrated and careful because one mistake or one decision can change everything. It was a blunt assessment from a coach who knows the standings have left his team little room to breathe.
Arka had recently been viewed as one of the strongest candidates for relegation, and the point at Lech Poznań briefly altered the conversation around the club. The result did not solve anything, but it did give supporters a reason to think the fight was not over yet. Wednesday’s arka – górnik zabrze meeting now becomes the next test of whether that belief has substance.
For Banasik, the formula is simple: survive the moment, then move to the next one. The schedule offers no pause, with Monday’s home match against Bruk-Bet Termalica already looming. But the coach’s message was clear enough to leave little doubt about the order of business. Before Arka can think about anything else, it has to handle Górnik.
