went into stores nationwide on April 21, giving customers a new set of sandwiches and sides priced under $3. The rollout also brought meal deals that bundle breakfast and lunch items, while the chain has already dropped the Buy One, Add One for $1 offer it introduced in November 2024.

The current pricing puts a McDouble at $2.50 and a Sausage McMuffin at $1.50. For breakfast, the $4 Meal Deal includes a Sausage McMuffin or Sausage Biscuit with Hash Browns and a small coffee. For lunch or later in the day, the McChicken Meal Deal costs $5 and comes with 4-piece McNuggets, small fries and a small drink, while the McDouble Meal Deal is $6 and includes the same sides.

A McDonald’s representative said the company sees the menu as a broader value platform, saying customers now have more options to choose from, whether they want a quick snack or a complete meal. The framing matters because McValue was described by the company as flexible and designed to evolve with customers, not as a fixed discount board.

That flexibility has not stopped the backlash. In the days after the April 21 launch, some customers began comparing the new prices with older ones, including a Reddit post that asked, “Anyone remember when McDoubles used to be 99 cents? It was only 10 years ago…” On X, one user wrote, “In what world is $7.00 for a McDouble ‘mcvalue meal’ with SMALL DRINK AND FRIES any value at all,” while another said, “That is 89 cents worth of food.”

McDonald’s chief executive said on May 7 that early indicators on McValue’s performance since the changes were introduced a couple of weeks ago were in line with expectations. That leaves the chain in a familiar position: trying to sell value at a time when customers are watching every dollar and judging the offer against what they remember paying not long ago.
